![]() ![]() Chernobylite is an ambitious first-person shooter, RPG, survival horror game with some base building aspects and pivotal choices that will change the dynamic of your team and impact your survival greatly. And now we have Chernobylite, a game based in this dark and grim location allowing us to delve into this place that basically feels like its a totally different planet to where we live when in retrospect, it's essentially on our doorstep. Collecting items to build these structures never felt burdensome as there is a radar item that allows players to periodically ping the surrounding area, highlighting collectible resources.It can't just be me who has spent massive amounts of time watching documentaries about Chernobyl, learning about it in history or reading the various accounts from scientists and historians of the massive effect that the catastrophe had. ![]() Players may not get the kind of freedom found in dedicated crafting games like Valheim, but there is still a lot to do. There is a solid sense of progression as players move from a single friend and barbeque to a gridded base full of weapons manufacturing, resting areas, and even gardens. The player will need a good team of companions to pull off a big heist at the powerplant itself, and keeping them fit and happy is a major part of how bases are constructed. The crafting and base building might strike as out of place in a game so centered around story, but Chernobylite succeeds in weaving item collection, crafting, and base management into the narrative. Clever hiding and sneaking can avoid a direct confrontation, but there is a certain thrill knowing that any extra time spent looting might incur the wrath of this formidable foe. As players approach certain objectives, the Black Stalker begins to hunt them throughout the map. Finally, there is the Black Stalker, an enemy that feels like Resident Evil 2 Remake's Mr. Monsters spice things up with greater health, fast movement, and heavy hitting attacks. Enemy soldiers are competent but Chernobylite offers players the opportunity to sneak, meaning that there's often more than one way to tackle an engagement. ![]() Scary encounters definitely lose some luster when players know the question mark they're approaching has a one-in-three or so chance of being a jump scare.Ĭombat is functional and there is a deep weapon customization system, too. Sometimes the fact that these encounters are marked on the map robs them of some gravitas, but with the size of each area, it would be easy to miss them without the help. Making their way to them, players might find quirky NPCs to talk and trade with, clues to help unravel the conspiracy surrounding Tatyana's disappearance, or straight up spooks. On missions, aside from the key objective, there are often points of interest dotting the map. From abandoned parks to overgrown marshes, there is a nice diversity in Chernobylite's maps that is extended by a dynamic weather system that includes lightning storms, radiation clouds, and rain fans of the STALKER series will find themselves right at home. players will find themselves navigating a pretty and atmospheric landscape. 2 E3 Trailer Reveals Creepy Monsters & Release Date The management side of Chernobylite tasks players with using the resources they acquired out in the world to feed and house companions (who can also be sent out on their own missions) and build up a base with crafting stations, comfort items, and a lot more. ![]() In the former, players will explore a different open world style area near the Chernobyl Powerplant to accomplish missions, collect resources, sneak past or fight soldiers and monsters, and engage with unknown encounter locations all in an effort to find out what happened to the protagonist Igor's fiancée Tatyana. Played as a first-person adventure, Chernobylite divides the player's time between action-RPG segments and base building sections. ![]()
